Understanding and responding to self-injury in trans communities
Self-injury is a common behavior within trans communities, as well as with folks who have experienced sexual or other forms of harm. Many providers and community members have misunderstandings about what non-suicidal self-injury is and how to respond when someone engages in these behaviors. This webinar will help dispel common myths, validate supportive responses, and examine the complexity of shame and stigma that often accompany self-injury. This webinar is aimed at providers and helpers (but all are welcome) and presented through a harm-reduction lens.
Objectives:
- List three different types of self-injury.
- Explain the differences between non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal behaviors.
- Describe two ways providers can be affirming and help reduce harm risks.
