Restrictive legislation is limiting the basic right of transgender and non-binary individuals to use public bathrooms and locker rooms. Additionally, youth and adults, politicians and citizens, parents and teachers, atheists and people of faith, (and even some victim service providers) are all too often engaging in anti-trans bullying, discrimination, and assault. Victim service agencies across the country are asking what they can do to both support transgender communities and counter myths about sexual assault linkages to basic transgender rights. This webinar will help attendees effectively respond to the false charges that trans peoples’ access to restrooms threatens women’s and children’s safety, offering suggested strategies that compassionately address peoples’ fears and introduce factual data about sexual assault, prevention, and bystander intervention. We will also explore how transgender sexual assault survivors are negatively impacted by public votes on their basic human rights and repeated accusations of being sexual predators. There are many ways we can all make a difference in improving the lives of trans and non-binary people.
