Improving Urgent Services to Transgender and Non-Binary Victims of Crime

Date: Friday, September 14, 2018
Time: 8:00am – 12:30pm

This half day training will most benefit staff who work with victims of crime in urgent care settings or when individuals are in crisis, including:

– hotline staff,
– 911 call center staff,
– crisis mental health staff,
– receptionists,
– first responders [both law enforcement and EMT (emergency medical personnel)],
– emergency room physicians and other urgent medical providers,
– others whose contacts with victims of crime tend to be short-term and crisis-oriented.

Topics covered:

  • Core information about transgender/non-binary individuals
  • Transgender-specific victimization data relevant to urgent care professionals
  • Crime victimization patterns within the trans community and their impact on help-seeking behavior
  • Best practices in responding to trans/non-binary individuals in a crisis
  • Specific information and skills for working with trans/non-binary survivors in medical settings, including forensic exams
  • Resources for more training and detailed information on working with trans survivors
