Day 15 – Reduce bullying in schools

According to the 2015 US Transgender Survey, 77% of those who were out or were perceived as transgender while in school (K-12) had negative experiences. 54% were verbally harassed, 24% were physically attacked, and 13% were sexually assaulted. Bullying has long-term implications as well: 17% trans youth who were harassed left school before earning their diploma, and 6% were expelled. Not earning a high school diploma lowers trans individuals’ chances of employment and increases their exposure to violence if they need to survive through sex work or other street economies.
