Job Tips Handouts
In the wake of transwoman Chanel Larkin’s murder in May 2010, several African-American transgender women approached FORGE and asked for our help in finding them more traditional employment so they could quit working the streets. FORGE joined with the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, Diverse & Resilient, Q-BLOK and a major international employment agency to develop a pilot project designed to work with transgender people with multiple barriers to employment. It was our hope that we could not only help these and other Milwaukee transgender people find and maintain employment, but that we could develop a program that can be replicated in other cities across the country.
Unfortunately, due to limited staff resources, we have been unable to maintain the initial efforts, even though we recognize that the needs of transgender people in Milwaukee persist and job discrimination against transgender and SOFFA individuals is still an every day reality.
