Transgender Survivors: Enhancing Culturally Responsive Services (WCASA/WCADV)
May 15, 2013 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
The following is a recording of a “remote training” by FORGE for the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault / Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WCASA/WCADV) Director’s meeting on May 15, 2013. It is similar to many other archived webinars, but was presented live to a group of 50 agency directors from across the state of Wisconsin, who were all in one room.
There are two interactive exercises. If you are watching by yourself, you can think about your own answers, or you can engage with a partner if you are watching with another person.
You will hear the voice of a WCASA staff person, who was interfacing with FORGE staff throughout the workshop.
A brief overview of general transgender and gender non-conforming concepts will lay the groundwork for a fast-paced, interactive discussion about barriers trans* survivors of intimate partner violence, dating violence, and related forms of victimization face. Data-driven content will increase understanding of the systemic barriers and specific challenges transgender/gender non-conforming survivors experience. Practical examples, directly from trans* survivors’ lives, will highlight how and where service providers and agencies can construct culturally responsive policies, procedures, and practices to better serve this highly victimized and underserved population. Multiple handouts and resources will be included giving more detailed information and opportunities for additional free training.
