Transgender Health: The Long Term Health Implications of Sexual Violence (WV)

April 11 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

A growing body of research highlights high rates of sexual and domestic violence within transgender populations. Coupled with these increased rates of singular- and poly-victimization are negative health implications, including disproportionately elevated rates of depression and suicidality, HIV, substance use/abuse and more.  Transgender-specific barriers to care due to poverty, insurance transgender exclusions, stigma, and provider lack of education or overt discrimination, result in transgender survivors of violence of all ages living with both poorer health and the long-term effects of trauma. Come learn about ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and what you can do to improve the health and well-being of transgender/non-binary survivors.
