Goodman Community Center, Madison

  • 8:00-8:45am Registration & Networking
  • 8:45am Welcome

Paths to Healing is a day-long conference to provide support and explore what we need to do as a community to respond to the needs of sexual abuse survivors. It is intended for child sex abuse survivors – particularly male survivors – supportive allies, advocates, health and mental health professionals, and law enforcement.

In its inaugural debut in 2013, the event drew 75 attendees from around the upper Midwest to explore child sex abuse survival with presentations from Representative Chris Taylor, MaleSurvivor, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, and more.

In 2014, Paths to Healing included topics such as healing from childhood sex abuse (with an emphasis on male sex abuse), survivor activism, foregiveness, art and drama therapy, play therapy, a theater workshop, the impact and coping patterns, and a very special keynote by Dr. David Lisak (co-founder and current Board member of 1in6, a well-known national organization dedicated to male survivors of childhood sex abuse).

There will be two breakout tracks, one for survivors and one for community members. More specific information will be forthcoming.

  • Mindfulness Meditation – Amanda Hellenbrand, Red Tail Hypnosis
  • Healthy Boundaries – Shelby Mitchell, Safe Haven
  • Finding Your Way: Creative Coping Skills for Sexual Abuse Survivors- Lucy McLellan & Owen Karcher, Canopy Center
