Do You Know Your Rights as a Trans Elder?

June 6, 2015 @ 10:20 am - 11:40 am

Description:

Never in U.S. history has a stigmatized minority made as many political and social advances as quickly as the transgender community has.  Most of these advances affect trans people of all ages, but some are specific to trans elders, giving us access to many more services, protections, and opportunities than we had even a few years ago.  This workshop is designed as a participatory game show, so come prepared to have fun with other participants while you learn about policy developments that have the potential to change your life for the better.

Presenter:

Loree Cook-Daniels
Loree Cook-Daniels founded the Transgender Aging Network in 1998 and became the Policy and Program Director for FORGE in 2000. Cook-Daniels’ professional background includes decades of work as a Congressional Legislative Assistant and staffer for a wide variety of aging and/or transgender organizations. Cook-Daniels is a primary trainer under the federal government’s National Resource Center on LGBT Aging and under FORGE’s federal project to provide training and technical assistance nationally to service providers on how to
respectfully and competently serve transgender survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking.
