Transgender Domestic Violence: Developing new strategies to assist survivors

March 29 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

EVENT DESCRIPTION: Since the rise of the Battered Women’s Movement in the 1970s, the United States has been at the forefront of providing legal protection and services to survivors of domestic violence. Unfortunately, transgender communities remain largely ignored by this movement. Research indicates that, despite experiencing similar or higher rates of domestic violence as compared to the rest of society, transgender survivors are provided with fewer legal protections and needed services. Moreover, when transgender survivors reach out for help, often they are met with transphobic responses. Join our expert panel for a discussion about how we can develop new strategies that will protect ALL Americans from the perils of domestic violence.
