Webinars
Under our grant from the Office for Victims of Crime, FORGE is preparing 3 webinars to be offered to professionals who work with transgender sexual violence survivors. These will be offered in the second half of 2011:
Transgender 101
This fast-paced webinar covers basic terminology (including what to beware of); medical, emotional, and social aspects of being transgender; what professionals need to know about a gender transition; and easy-to-remember “keys” that will help professionals provide respectful and culturally competent services to transgender clients.
Transgender Sexual Violence Survivors
Topics covered by this webinar will include prevalence rates, barriers to accessing services, and unique issues facing transgender sexual violence survivors and service providers. Participants will gain knowledge about practical steps that will assist them in modifying existing policies and procedures, identifying and lowering barriers to service, and improving effective services to transgender survivors and loved ones.
Making Your Agency Transgender-Friendly
Good intentions aren’t enough. Transgender people are wary of new service providers, and will search for clues about how you might treat them. This webinar will demystify those tell-tale signs, and teach you how you can be sure that every part of your agency sends the message, “you are welcome here.”
