Day 4 – GED

#30DaysOfAction

Get (or help someone obtain) a GED

Many trans people drop out of high school due to violence and harassment. Not having a diploma closes many job options and can force trans people to turn to street economies and survival sex (which are often illegal in many states and add to risk of both violence and arrest). You can find a local program that can lead to a high school equivalency certificate by checking out http://www.nationalliteracydirectory.org/

  • You can support someone who is working toward their GED by:
    • Helping them with transportation to and from class (by driving them or buying bus passes)
    • Studying with or tutoring them
    • Volunteering in their program
    • Paying any fee associated with the GED program
    • Offering to provide childcare while they are in class or studying
    • Lending access to your computer or office supplies
