Today is LGBT Center Awareness Day
Today, September 15, is the sixth annual LGBT Center Awareness Day, this year co-sponsored by Centerlink: The Community of LGBT Centers and The Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Professionals.
There are more than 150 LGBT Centers playing pivotal roles in the LGBT communities where they exist. Such Centers serve as referral sources, meeting places, welcome wagons, and much, much more. Many sponsor anti-violence programs that specifically address the needs of LGBT victims of crime and violence. Over 1.9 million people visit LGBT centers every year. Any victim service provider who wants to reach out to the LGBT community should know about and establish relationships with the LGBT Center closest to them. You can locate your nearest Center by checking out CenterLink’s membership directory at www.lgbtcenters.org
