Toolkit: Responding to Transgender Victims of Sexual Assault

In recognition of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, the Office for Victims of Crime  is pleased to announce the release of a new online guide, Responding to Transgender Victims of Sexual Assault (http://www.ovc.gov/pubs/forge/index.html), to help educate those who respond to transgender sexual assault victims.

This toolkit was created in collaboration between FORGE and Office for Victims of Crime for a broad spectrum of victim service providers, with specific sections for:

  • Victim Advocates
  • Law Enforcement
  • Emergency Medical Personnel
  • Health Care Providers
  • Therapists
  • Support Group Facilitators

The Responding to Transgender Victims of Sexual Assault toolkit is informed by both research and transgender survivors, offering data and practical tools to promote understanding and support for transgender victims.

If you are unfamiliar with transgender issues, you may want to begin by visiting the Transgender 101 page or read the welcoming message from OVC Director Joye E. Frost.

There is a great deal of information housed within this toolkit.  Enjoy exploring the many pages and expanding your knowledge skills to better serve transgender survivors of sexual assault.
