FAQ: Writing to Heal

How does this course work?

There are 6 phone calls over a 10 week period – one for each of 5 subjects and 1 additional call at the end of the course.  You will be emailed assignments on Wednesdays and Fridays (4 total assignments per topic).  These assignments will also be posted here, in this password protected area.  You will also receive nearly daily emails with quotes, music, or other reflections.  You can participate as much or as little as you want.  You never need to share.  We encourage you to be on each call, if possible.

When are the calls?

You have been assigned to either the 12:00pm/noon Central or 7:30pm Central time slot.  The call dates are:

  • October 10, 2011(Topic 1: Internal Resources)
  • October 24, 2011(Topic 2: Trauma Basics)
  • November 7, 2011(Topic 3: Safety)
  • November 21, 2011 (Topic 4: Triggers)
  • December 5, 2011 (Topic 5: Gratitude)

What do I need to do??

  • You are already signed up!
  • Engage at whatever level you are comfortable.
    • You can be silent on calls, or verbally share.  You can complete assignments or skip them. You can modify assignments to meet your needs. You can share you reflections or responses to assignments on the interactive blog
  • Take care of yourself
    • Participate at a level that is safe and comfortable for you. Allow yourself to use and enrich your support network. Actively engage in self care.

Navigating the web-interface

A summary post will be made after each of the six calls.  All assignments and quotes will be posted online (here), as well as directly emailed to you.  For each post, you can comment, share your thoughts, writing, reflections.  You can input text or images.  When you comment on a post, you will automatically be notified when others comment on the same post.  You can also sign up to be notified of comments, even if you don’t want to post.  (We are working out how this process works, so you can have the most flexibility about how and when you want to be notified.)

I have other questions.

Feel free to call (414-559-2123) or email the course instructors Loree Cook-Daniels or michael munson.  They will gladly assist you with any concerns or questions you have.
