Rally Press Kit

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

10/20/2010

In light of the recent teen suicides, and recognizing the relationship between youth who have been bullied as kids who then grow up to be adult bullies themselves — sometimes their actions even resulting in intentional deaths (of themselves or others) — FORGE has put together a press kit for Milwaukee media.

The media push is timed to also promote the Peaceful Rally for Justice, Rights, & Respect on at 2:00pm on October 23, 2010 at MacArthur Square between the Safety Building  (821 W. State Street) and the Milwaukee Public Museum (800 W. Wells Street), between 7th and 9th Streets.

Join FORGE and many other organizations and individuals to:
Honor the loss of these vibrant individuals.
March in solidarity for justice and respect.
Listen to passionate speeches.
Support those who have been personally affected.
Build a stronger community that cares.
Envision a world without violence and discrimination.

Candlelight Vigil Remembering Chanel Larkin – October 7, 2010

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

October 7, 2010 @ 8:00pm

Garfield and 23rd Milwaukee, WI

Family and friends of the late Chanel Larkin will be joined by community supporters at an 8:00 p.m. Candlelight Vigil on the 5-month anniversary of her murder, Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the site where she died: the corner of Garfield and 23rd, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Candlelight Vigil is one of several actions that have grown out of a series of community meetings organized by FORGE, Wisconsin’s largest transgender and SOFFA  organization, and SHEBA (Sisters Helping Each Other Battle AIDS), a program of Diverse & Resilient.  The purpose of these meetings has been to support community members in our grief and to transform our loss into positive changes in our shared and respective communities.  These efforts include calling for public discussions and actions designed to help transgender people complete their education without harassment, obtain and maintain employment without discrimination, and live peaceful lives free of prejudice and violence.
